Get some Bactine (found at wal-mart or any store such as CVS, Eckerd)... it comes in a squirt bottle... just hold a paper towel under your ring, and squirt some of the liquid on your ring... this in also a good time to move the ring around so the skin doesnt try to grow back around it.

Bactine is good, because it not only cleanses the area, but it has and anesthetic agent which helps to relive the pain in the area.

When the wife had hers done the piercing specialist said that you should use an anti-bacterial soap like Dial, to clean the area daily. Then afterwards use a solution of 1/4 tablespoon of sea salt and 5 oz warm water (bend forward at the waist and place the glass with the solution on your bellybutton and lean back, it will create a vaccuum and the solution will stay inside the glass). Leave this on for 2-4 minutes, this will help with infection and toughen up the piercing quicker. You only need to do this for 6-8 weeks afterwards then you should be able to use Neosporin. The wife never got an infection and this was 6 years ago.

The best way to clean your belly button ring is to clean it with antibacterial soap at least once a day, put ointment on it 3-4 times a day, and to clean it with saline solution about 3-4 times a day too. DO NOT put neosporin or peroxide on it because that will dry it out and it will get infected. You should go to any store and buy that store's brand of ointment. Like if you go to Wal*Mart, buy Wal*Mart's brand of ointment. So basically any generic kind of ointment.

Alot of stuff will dry out you belly button so be careful, to tell the truth the only thing I would recommend is neosporin it keeps it moist enough not to dry out and clean enough not to get infected and it hurts like hell if it does so good luck and best wishes

My belly button ring got skanky and infected and I was told by my doctor to use antibacterial soap and bedadine. I know they use bedadine to sterilize for surgery, so that's good stuff. Just don't use it if you have an allergy to shellfish, because it contains iodine.
