I know this might sound like a stupid question, but I'm serious! I always try to do them but can never get more than a couple answered. Any advice will be much appreciated! Thanx!

I had the same problem! Do one crossword as much as you can, when you can't get anymore clues, cheat and use a dictionary. Fill up as much as you can on your own, and use the dicitionary when you're stuck. Then, if you still haven't filled it, check the next days paper for the real answers, and compare to the clues. This will help you learn what the puzzle is asking for. And, you'll learn lots of vocabulary for future crossword puzzles! Then, do the next days puzzle the same way...Once you get in the habit, it gets easier and easier, and you learn plenty of new vocabulary words...(i used crosswords to study for my SATs a few years ago...)

LOOK FOR PUZZLES THAT HAVE SUBJECTS YOU ARE INTERESTED IN AND ARE GEARED TOWARD YOUR AGE, DEPENDING ON HOW OLD YOU ARE. IF IT'S SOMETHING YOU'RE INTERESTED IN YOU MIGHT HAVE A BETTER KNOWLEDGE BASE. SOMETIMES IF YOU PUT IT DOWN FOR AWHILE THEN GO BACK THE CLUES MIGHT COME TO YOU. THEN A LOT OF PRACTICE WILL HELP, THE MORE YOU DO THE BETTER YOU'LL GET. THERE ARE REFERENCE BOOKS WITH A LOT OF SOLUTIONS FOR CROSSWORD PUZZLE CLUES. CHECK OUT A BOOK STORE AND ASK ABOUT THEM. I HAD A VERY DEAR OLD FRIEND WHO HAD ONE FOR MANY YEARS. HE DIED WHEN HE WAS 106! HEY, IT'S NOT A STUPID QUESTION, GO AND HAVE FUN!

One tip my friend offered me was to look for clues that suggest what kind of suffix or prefix something would end in or start with. If it's a verb that will be past tense, there's a higher chance it will end in "ED" or plurals might end in "S". Also get to know your shorter words, 3 and 4 letter ones. It might help you to beef up your "boggle" skills with games like "word whomp" where so many otherwise completely obscure words will pop up and you'll start to recognize and remember them.
