Pregnancy tests can give false negatives, not false positives.
I would wait until you are late for your period and then test.

I would suggest taking the pregnancy test AFTER you have missed your period. No need to wonder if your period is on its way! There are some tests OTC that allow you take them before you have missed your period but at least 14 days after possible conception is when most doctors recommend taking these. The test will only be accurate if appropriate levels of HCG are in your urine.
Tests can and DO fail. You can have a false positive and a false negative result. I cannot take a pregnancy test, must have a blood test to detect if I am pregnant. I had my doctor explain this to me because I am not really educated on pregnancy results either way.
False positives are VERY rare but CAN happen. They are caused by a "chemical" pregnancy...which means you are in the early stages of a miscarriage and do not have a viable fetus developing. Also certain drugs react with the test and cause a false positive. Also there are evaporation lines that once the urine starts to be absorbed by the testing screen it could cause a FAINT positive line to appear. Again, these are VERY rare.
False negatives are more common. When a woman becomes pregnant her body should start to produce the hormone HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) which is what the actual pregnancy test is attempting to detect in your urine. If the body is not producing this hormone then the pregnancy test will appear negative when it is actually positive.

Be very careful. I took 4 at home tests, 2 blood tests at the doctor and 2 urine tests at the doctor. Had surgery on my tonsils (put out) and 2 days later, found out I was 7 weeks pregnant. Hormones called HGC (i think) are what make a pregnancy test come up positive. Sometimes, you can't tell, but most of the time, you can find out within about 10 days. I highly recommend ClearBlueEasy. The test that says "pregnant" or "Not Pregnant"

Sometimes the stress of wanting to be pregnant will help you to miss a period. Just relax. If your are pregant , the soonest you can find out from a home pregnancy test is 9 days. The doctor may be able to do a blood test and tell in about 5 days.

It is too early to use a home pregnancy test. You need to wait until at least the day of your missed period and even then, this is too early for some women.

Pregnancy tests are not perfect. The earlier the pregnancy, less hcg in the urine. If you wait a few days, if pregnant, there may be more and the test may work.
