You are given an oral or IV med to reduce anxiety and make you sleepy. Then a local anesthetic is injected into the area. Afterwards you are to avoid any strenuous work, and can return to work in one to two days, and avoid lifting for a week. Orgasms will be the same. You can read more about the procedure here http://www.medicinenet.com/vasectomy/article.htm

Yes it is done under general anesthetic, the recovery time is usually normal to any outpatient surgery i'd say at least 2 solid weeks..you can't keep a good man down:) Orgasims are usually the same if not (i have heard) much better...The anxiety of not getting someone pregnant any more goes a long way ... But be absolutley sure this is what YOU want .not your wife or girlfriend. it is your body. as with any surgery there are risks...But if you are afraid or have more serious questions go to the professionals about this, only they can decide how your body works, not people on here trying to earn point for giving lame advice to serious questions. Good Luck Sir.

My hubby had to done. Full recovery is about 2-3 weeks. But after a couple days he was doing little stuff around the house. The orgasms are so much better now. Sex is better now too.

I had an IV sedative with mine and it worked wonders.
My recovery time was about two weeks, which was longer than my friends who had the surgery.
Orgasms feel the same. The first one was odd...it just sort of dribbled, but now it's fine and just like I remember it being. My testicles are less sensitive to pain, but that's a good thing...I like them handled a little rougher now.
Sorry for the graphic answer, but it's the truth.
