Great team analogy there.
Except it was '01 when the Mariners had their amazing season and went 116-46 (not '02).
I agree completely though: Tigers will falter in the playoffs.
I take nothing away from Detroit and their tremendous success this year, but I don’t think they have what it takes to go far in the postseason.
They might get past the first round... but no way in hell will they win it all!

I disagree with that. The Mariners of 01 were not built to win in the playoffs. They were a hitting team who won because of career years by Ichiro, Bret Boone, John Olerud, and Edgar Martinez. Pitching is what wins in the playoffs and the Tigers have plenty of it. Imagine facing the Tigers in a seven game series and having to face Verlander, Jeremy Bonderman, Kenny Rogers, and Nate Robertson.

No - they are different teams, playing in different years.
This is a bad question. I think you meant are the Tigers of 06 comparatively like the Mariners of 02.

I completely agree. I've been trying to convince people of this for a couple months now, to no avail. The team is built to win regular season games. But if they come up against the RedSox or the Yankees in the playoff, they'll go down in 6 games.

They have better pitching. All you need to win a playoff series is 3 good starters. And, since the wildcard will probably come out of the Central, they'll likely play whoever wins in the West, the weakest division in the league.

Easy there. you gotta have faith. Nobody thought in a million years that they would be this good, You wait and see what those Tigers can do. I believe in them... Now if the Lions could just win more than 4 games this up and coming season....

i agree, its a unique situation. it depends on who they draw. if its the West winner (trust me, its the A's), they have a shot. But if its the GoddamnYankees/BoSox/ChiSox, they're cooked.
