The one muslim I know was a loving, caring man with a family he worked very hard to support. However, I'm totally against the rather sexist expectations of that religion.

I figure if I had a daughter, I think it is wrong to stop someone from marrying someone they truly loved, though I would have to do some serious research and have a talk with her about what converting to that religion would actually mean for her freedoms and what her in-laws would expect of her. If he didn't ask or expect her to convert, I wouldn't have a problem with it at all.

For every muslim extremist out there, I believe there are ten others with their face in their hands and shaking their heads saying "oh no, not again". Like christianity, there are parts of the Koran the dictate violence and larger parts that dictate peace.

My problem with your question is the word "let." Presuming that the girl would have to be of legal age to marry anyhow, just how would a parent not allow it? I mean, you could discourage it if you wanted, but to discourage it just based on a difference of religion without knowing the person or knowing about their relationship would be wrong.

I think it would greatly upset me, because by western standards muslims treat women as second class citizens. And i'd want my daughter to be all that she can be.

Sure, why not. If he was a nice guy (of course) but even if he was a jerk I would respect my daughters opinions (if she was of a legal-decision makeing age) and object only in spirit.

My child of either sex would be free to marry whomever they chose to because they have that right. Even the parent has no right to interfere with that.
