Let him or her go, you don't need business from a total dork who is spoiled and can't compromise. He or she can eat somewhere else. I am so tired of people who think that they can treat wait staff and other service professionals like that, it's so rude and shows very poor breeding, I think.

Every time I eat out, no matter where it is, I get so excited and appreciate so much that someone is willing to BRING ME FOOD! It's a miracle! Life's too short to act like such a jerk.

Then your guest is going to tell 10 other people how bad your restaurant is. I always try to say "I am sorry about your experience today. Can I get you a free meal (appetizer, dessert, etc...)?" Some people will like this, but some are going to be angry anyway. At least you can try to fix it instead of letting them walk out.

You very politely say, " I'm sorry we have run out of (whatever) may I suggest (whatever) instead? And please select a complimentayr appetizer of your choice while you wait." Then talk to your manager and let him know the situation so it can be corrected in the future. Customer service is A no. 1 and has really gone downhill lately. Make people feel that what they want and getting it for them is your number 1 priority and you will do well.

You can offer something for the inconvenience. And if that's not enough then let them walk. They may tell 10 other people about the bad service, but everyone else who hears and sees what went on will tell 10 other people, each, of how you handled yourself.

Chuckie 411 is right.

I'd just like to add that sometimes people are just having an incredibly bad day and a small thing can push them over the edge.

That does not make it right...but try not to let it get you down.

Hang in there!

Give him a free raincheck to be used at next visit, and hopefully no body could be that unlucky by then.Of course if they run out of bbq at a bbq restaurant..well....time to re-evaluate the reason you even tried again!

The guest got up and walked out of the restaurant because...... he/she was dreaming of that something to eat and was embedded in his/her brain......... he/she wanted it soooo bad.. and when you said that you didn't have it................ he/she got up and went down the street to Denny's.

"O" Wise One......... has spoken
