Every nation has its time in the spotlight
Persia,Macedonia ,Rome, Mongolia,France, Germany
So it's naive to think the U.S. will be on top forever.

The next super power will probably be China. European Union seems also a good candidate.
The problem with EU is that it is still politically divided.
( to correct some of the previous statements let me inform you that ancient Macedonia (or Macedon) was a Greek kingdom and has nothing to do with modern Slavic-Macedonia. Don't forget that ancient Macedonia and Alexander the great were responsible for the spreading of the Greek culture and language!)

While I agree that we are due to drop out of the number one spot, It won't be for awhile. China is a rising power, but they need to get out of their own way. Their single party system is bound to create a wider national divide. Tienanmen Square is an example of this. Don't underestimate Europe. When we eventually take our tumble, The E.U. will be there to break our fall and take the reins as the new superpower. After hundreds of years of fighting against each other and devastating their own infrastructure, they've finally gotten it right.

India...China can't get its act together...they worry too much about saving face...they cry too much about koizumi visiting a shrine...but the real reason they cry is because after the Olympics japan won't be giving an annual $20 billion to them for WW2 anymore...

Japan....I think it's safe to say Mexico and Botswana are out of the running. And no of course we won't be on top forever, but I just hope we don't make it to the bottom anytime soon.
