I know Percocet is oxycodone but they only come in 5mg and 10 mg tablets. It looks to me Oxycontin 40 mg would be a lot stronger . don't you agree.

Oxycontin is sustained release morphine tablets. The Percocet is oxycodone with acetaminophen and is very fast acting. Usually the Oxycontin is prescribed every 12 hours, sometimes every 8 hours. Oxycodone is used for breakthru pain when the regularly scheduled Oxycontin is not covering the pain. When you start using a lot of the Oxycodone tablets because your in pain, the physician will increase the dose of Oxycontin. Hope that helps. I am an RN. PS: Plain oxycodone is without the Acetaminophen. Its called Percocet when the Acetaminophen (tylenol) is added.
Oxycontin 40 mg is just sustained release, not stronger. If you took the tablet this morning, you would feel the peak effects tommorrow at noon.

Oxycodone side effects

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Stop using oxycodone and call your doctor at once if you have:
- shallow breathing, slow heartbeat, cold, clammy skin;
- seizure (convulsions);
- confusion, severe drowsiness; or
- a light-headed feeling, like you might pass out.
Oxycodone is more likely to cause breathing problems in older adults and people who are severely ill, malnourished, or otherwise debilitated.
Common side effects may include:
- drowsiness, headache, dizziness, tired feeling;
- stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, constipation, loss of appetite;
- dry mouth; or
- mild itching.
This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.

I have no idea but I have used both and to me they seem to be of equal strength, although, i think the oxycontin has a form of morphine in it. no matter what, I have chronic pain and I always need vicodan to give everything else that extra kick. go figure.

Although they are from the same family, different dosages of one medicine can have the same affect as the other.
