One that is a joy to drive and is relatively easy to park. I confess that BMW does look inviting. Except the specs are too much for performance, typical of BMW's. Something a little more sensible if you don't mind.

Well, haven't you noticed, gas hogs are not in trend anymore.

what part of the word "sensible" don't you understand?

I need something with some cargo space to accomodate the occasional need. I have a car - why would I want another one DUH??!!

Ford Escape Hybrid. Great on gas and has decent power. I have had no problems with mine for over 1 year.

The best SUV to own in a city/urban environment is no SUV.
Seriously, if you're living in the city where it is inevitably crowded, why make it worse with a gigantic vehicle? I can parallel park my integra in a spot with only half a foot clearance in the front and back with one maneuver.
Seriously, ask yourself why you need an SUV. Unless you're hauling a lot of people to work or need lots of cargo space, you'll be so much happier in a small car that can move comfortably through a crowded city.

Yeah. Get one of those two story jobbies that can drive over anything except the two story jobby right in front of it.

Even though it's unlikely you'll ever take it off road, be sure it's a 4WD.

These gas guzzling things should be illegal to own unless living more than six months of the year in an area that has more than 18" annual snow fall, or paying a hefty luxury tax to do so.

Something along the lines of a Toyota Highlander. They (Highlanders) are overpriced though, especially the hybrid.

I would suggest a Hummer big enough to be safe, and no one would challenge you at intersections or for parking spaces.
