i have a Intel Duo-core T2600 processor in my XPS laptop. I'm wondering what the safest way to overclock it would be without ruining it or other hardware. I have read from xbit that it can be overclocked to safely run at 2.6ghz.

in a laptop you should never overclock your CPU. even at stock speeds laptops are notorious for having bad heat issues and getting very hot. either way, most prebuild computers for companies like Dell and Toshiba are locked against overclocking by the company who made the computer. just so you know, to to access where the overclocking menu would be if it is there, repeatedly tap delete as your computer boots up to get into BIOS. then, search around for a CPU voltage/frequency adjust setting (typically listed under either the power/voltage or performance menus) and adjust it there. If taht doesn't worka dn you are still hellbent on overclocking, there is a program called clockgen that you can find through google (the exact location escapes me at the moment). just be forewarned that your laptop will most likley not withstand the heat and could shutdown, or even worse, fry the cpu
Hope this helps!

sure, by way of fact once you overclock your increasing the voltage, and that CPU can in basic terms shelter plenty and gets warmer than what it incredibly is meant to and reason issues. in case your going to overclock, get a liquid cooling gadget, then it is not AS risky.

Be very careful doing this especially a laptop I would not recommend. When your overclocking the processor will work harder more heat will be generated and a higher power frequency will be needed so becareful.

you shouldn't in a laptop.
It'd surprise if that even possible with a laptop bios since they are configured for the cpu in it.

go to BIOS setup and change the frequency that is higher than the one that you have and try it if it will not cause failure on your Operating System.
