I'm a person who is accustommed to Pentium 4, 3GHz + 128MB Geforce 5200fx, 512mb ram.
I'm thinking about getting a laptop with these qualities(HP NX6310): Celeron M 1,46Ghz, 512mb ram, 128mb integrated/shared graphic card.
I'm willing to give up serious gaming. But I'm concerned about the processor speed. How is Celeron M 1,46Ghz compared to Pentium 4, 3Ghz ?
I'll appreciate *pro* and experienced answers.
So, I'm basically interested in a comparison of my current pc and the HP model I referred to. To see if I can have near the same speed with the cheap laptop.
Thank you

The most extreme thing I do is to open Adobe Photoshop and Flash softwares at the same time. Would that Celeron M 1,46Ghz handle that?
I know there are Core Duo models, I cannot afford them =/

This one is around 760$ in my country and the almost similar Dell model is 860$ but it's Celeron M 1,6Ghz.

Turkey. And you would search for our tech stores and prices? I'm just asking the compatibility of M 1,46+512Ram with Photshop/Flash sort of softwares. Nothing more thank you

You will be happy with a laptop with those specifications. Pentium M is actually better in performance than Pentium 4, but mostly for laptops. Read the reviews and you can make the judgement. If you are only using it for small programs, then I honestly dont think you will have problems with it.

"Pentium 4 is just like your Pentium 4 you would find in a desktop system. The advantage is that you get higher speeds and they are a little cheaper ($/Ghz). The disadvantage is that they generate ALOT of heat, and suck your battery dry. Laptops with this processor are generally larger and are frequently in "desktop replacement" laptops.
Pentium M is a Pentium that has been optimized for laptops (it is still technically a Pentium4). The advantage is that they use less battery, generate less heat. The disadvantage is that they are a little slower and are a little pricier ($/Ghz). You usually find them in smaller laptops like "thin & light" or "ultraportables"
Centrino is what Intel has drummed up to increase sales. It is the combination of Intel Pentium M, Intel Wireless LAN, and Intel chipset (855 or something). The three work together to intelligently improve your batterlife and laptop perfromance.
It all depends on what you need in a laptop. If being mobile is your priority then i would look for laptops with Pentium Ms, and preferred with Centrino. If performance is your priority than go with a Pentium 4.
Also, dont forget the other parts to a laptop such as hard drive and RAM. Since laptop hard drives are much slower compared to desktop hard drives you should get plenty of RAM avoid using it as much as possible."

Well you have to compromize. If you really want a laptop that runs on a pentium 4, then you should get the same thing, but it wont last as long as the celeron m processor. The Celeron is made to save power and get the most of your Ghz. I have a 3.0 and a gig of ram on my desktop. I cool with my laptop with a 1.5 Ghz processor. I have almost a gig of ram. It can perform good. All you have to do to make it even more faster is to add vertual ram. You can do this to all your computers, though it will take 1 gig away from your hardrive. It will be just as good as a desktop. Remember this is a laptop it's not supposed to beat a desktop. It will be a little slower than a desktop. But if you still want some more speed on your computer her are some steps.
1-right click on my computer.
2-click on properties.
3-click on advance on the tabs
4- under performance click on settings
5-click on the advance tab
6-click on the button change
7-and type the in the number you have to the higher number under neath it. you are just expanding your virtual ram
9-click set and restart your computer. The the computer will go faster. This is completely reversable just remember the number is changed. It just takes out that space from your hardrive. If you need that space in your hardrive.

guess i got u'r point & answers above should have clarified most of u'r doubts !
i do not favour the celeron, please
l2 cache of 1 mb is just about ok
appears u'r selection is costing nearabouts $ 600
> if u can please confirm price
lottsa pentium m models i guess in that price band
http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/computer_series.do?series_name=V5000T_series&catLevel=3&category=notebooks/compaq_presario/V5000_series&storeName=computer_store
a compaq presario v5000t
$ 575 with intel solo core l2 cache of 2 mb, 512 mb ddr2 ram
>>> even better options available
> best u spell out budget !
____________
fine, now if u do not mind telling us which country please
____________
seems u getting edgy and need instant solutions
sorry dear
i would've said yes to a M 1.46 ghz if it were the pentiums with L2 cache of 2 mb
512 mb ram is comfortable !
>> i'm just trying 2 convey that a celeron is a poor processor compared 2 a pentium, even besides the l2 cache levels
my final verdict, get a pentium m AND NOT a celeron m
mind u , i do not mean the intel solo cores and dual cores, which r even better
celeron m 4 basic stuff, typin letters, spreadsheets, internet, email
>> check 4 the dell inspirion 1300 with lowest pentium chip & 512 mb ram ..... good enuf 4 u'r application ... yes !
< quoting from dell site because it's in english, hp in turkish >
> it's u'r money, spend it whichever way u like

Well, anything celeron is no where near a 3ghz pentium 4, especially an HyperThreading pentium 4. I would say go with a low end Duocore processor.

OMG, u shouldnt even be asking this question to tell u the truth, 1.46ghz is slow, but when put that on a celeron it basically creates the slowest machine ull ever run. If u want a laptop get something with pentium m 1.76GHz....minimum....and the one u have right now is actually better then my laptop, so dont give it up

nicely first you will desire to get the Microsoft place of work kit which would be got here upon at place of work depot or circuitt city or some the place else like that. If youi are a student you will get it for lots greater reasonably priced . Then i could advise geting A T and T cyber web that's quickly and it in hassle-free terms expenditures 15$ a month! All you do is circulate on the internet and seek A T and T cyber web then seek for a telephone umber call the type and that they're going to deliver you the finished kit! that's super and you'd be on the internet top away!

Photo shop uses ram, it will take all it can so if you can maximize your ram you will be able to get by with less Hz.
Wow went HP site, you'll be paying around $800.
Go here for a Dell with better screen, processor,RAM
http://www.delloutlet.com
http://www.techbargains.com
NEW ones for $649. Beat HP NX6310 all the way.
