Oh Yeah.. www.diynetwork.com has a show called Stylicious, all how to, all girlie and I saw the three hostesses do a "bag-off".
Start there, then go to www.simplicity/com for tnhe patterns and each pattern pack has step by steps. Click on crafts, accessories, totes and get a good look before heading to WalMart or JoAnns or Hancock fabrics.
They have these racks with patterns labeled Sew Easy and Patterns for Dummies (kind of rude but they named them not me, should be Patterns for people who dodn't have my Gram for a gram) They have bags and some of the pictures on the patterns use fabrics right there at Hancock, so you can make it exactly like on the pack photo or choose your own colors.

There are so many different styles of hand bags. It would help if we had some kind of idea what style you're thinking of......... clutch, should bag.... I have a great pattern, but you can't explain a pattern to someone, you'd have to actually see it in order to make it.

All you need is a pair of jeans or shorts.
First cut Jeans/Shorts legs off.
Next stich up the holes where the legs were.
Then sew handles onto the top where your waist would be.
There you have a handbag.
