I can not tell you why the Americans are willing but I can tell you that when you give up even one freedom because of the fear of terrorism then the terrorist have won. We should be able and willing to go about our lives normally without government interference.

he American population has been sucked into a cycle of fear mongering that goes back to the twenties. A politician needs only scare the population enough to be elected. Nixon and McCartney are two recent examples. This cycle of fake fears was rudely interrupted by the real fears of al-Quaeda attacks but those in charge didn't know what to do. Fake fears they knew what to do about real attacks where not what they had ever dealt with. So they went back to the reactionary move of revoking the revolutionary rights and freedoms enshrined in the US constitution. In every crisis since 1812 they have attempted this They have never felt comfortable about the common people having those rights and the revocation did two things. It removed features of the society they couldn't stand and it made them look like they were doing something effective. It is up to the citizens to protect those rights and they just have to remember that the tools are in place already to defeat the enemies of the USA. The sad fact is that the real threats to USA are friends with president and his cronies and the countries energies are wasted on puffed up threats and propped up enemies. Repeat after me most of the money for 9/11 came from Iraq and most of the bombers came from the middle class of Saudi Arabia. Ben Franklin said that if you give up liberty for safety you don't deserve either. Americans seem to be giving up both.

I don't feel like I have given up any freedom to feel safer. I still get on planes, go on vacations...We're a Military family living in another country, a peaceful country, (Italy) but we're still a long way from home. I don't think a lot about terrorist unless I turn on the t.v. or get on Yahoo Answers. I have children, and my husband and I refuse to install fear in them because of what's going on in the world, and how can we show them not to be afraid if we're afraid all the time? Sitting around worrying about terrorism isn't going to make it go away, or make me feel better, so I'm going to live my life as normal as possible.

Y'know...that's a really good question.
People should really read the laws they've let pass during this administration. There's a lot of stuff stuck in 'em.
If you want to know what kind's of freedoms we've lost, go read:
1. The No Child Left Behind Act
2.The Patriot Act
Read all the fine print and cluses. It may be boring, but it's informative.

And what personal freedom has been lost, If you are speaking of the restrictions on flying, this is merley something they should have done years ago, but did not becuase of pressure for money, it is all based on money, what the public will pay for, so if people won't pay the costs of new security, soon it will not exist.
But contorol of many transportation has nothing to do with rights, the people still have the right to do it or not do it, the end right

You're right. It IS the government's job to keep us safe. And it is doing that using tools like the Patriot Act to do it. I'm not giving up any personal freedoms. I like being safe and if they need me to participate in that process, I'm ready and willing to help.

Let me make a couple of statements here.
The only sure way to be safe from terrorists is to be dead.
Your government is not your country.
Your military is not your messiah.
Your president is not your god.
People need to get their priorities straight. Is risking death in freedom not greater than living as a slave?
Besides,
If you don't fight for your rights, you will die for them.
The basic answer is people have become dependent on our government.
paraphrasing a quote from George Washington...
Government is a dangerous servant and a terrible master.

We have to agree to disagree on this issue. I see you as the one who does not understand what it takes to protect the masses. You are so wrapped up into yourself what you perceive as a loss of Freedom. Don't blame my Government, blame the terrorist that want your butt spread out over miles of ocean, or where ever they may strike next. You are the dangerous kind in this war. Naive to a fault.

I want all the rights guaranteed to me in the constitution and bill of rights, yep, all of them. I don't think a real party exists in the world that wants that though.
