My dance teacher told me my face needs to look more like I'm having fun in dance class, and several workshop teachers/ people who have auditioned me say that I'm a good dancer but I look very serious. I'm a shy person by nature but once I get to know people I tend to be more outgoing. Any tips for helping me feel comfortable enough to be more outgoing in classes, recitals, and auditions?

Be confident in what you are doing. Know you are good and have a good time. Show your love of dance through your face. Everyone should be able to see how much you love dance through just your facial expressions. Practice all your dances outside of class, until they are second nature. You should be able to perform your dances while singing the ABC's. You should NEVER have to think about what step is coming up next. Once your dances are engraved in your head, you can concentrate on having fun and showing it!

let yourself get caught in the music. If you need to smile, odds are that it is a fast, fun song. let it get to you! find a few friends in your class and perform for each other. When they get up, let go with the catcalls! let them know that they're fun to watch. odds are, they'll return the favor, and you won't be able to avoid smiling.
Also: practice dancing while sticking your tounge out in front of a mirror. You'll smile, and it'll give you something to think about besides your dance when you perform.

Aside from technique and musicality, emotional dancing comes from acting.

When you dance you should try to remove yourself from your inhibitions. Because for that moment when you're dancing nothing else matters. You should be proud of what your doing and don't worry about being shy.

Trust your technique and your dance abilities.

try to think of happy moments about anything...try to remember laughs you had with your friend..

if your comfortable with dancing then try thinking of being more outgoing just like a great new dance move or something!

just have fun...
good luck!

oo and just remember...Smile because everyone loves your smile (even if you dont think so!)

Just try to loosen up and remember that you're there to have fun! Practice a couple moves in front of a mirror with your new expression, and then see improvement!

Try to make a conscious effort to smile more. At least if you're smiling you won't look as serious.
