Well, i hope you haven't "set " the stain in permanently...but as a carpet person... 1st hydrogen peroxcide.. watch it bubble the ketchup away..then make a homemade concoction of DAWN liquid detergent and lemon juice make a paste and apply rub into area let it set for 2 hours rinse and let dry.repeat if necessary.

I found this information on a website, but if the carpet is a light color I would spray some shout or water on the stain and sprinkle Oixyclean on it and let set 45 min to an hour. I hope some of this will help you.

Remove as much of the stain as possible by blotting with a white paper towel or scraping with a dull knife, then neutralize with an ammonia solution (1 tablespoon of clear household ammonia to 1/2 cup of water). Saturate spot with the ammonia solution using spray bottle. Do not wet backing. Blot with a white paper towel to remove excess moisture.

Apply a small quantity of detergent solution to the spot. (To make the detergent solution mix 1/4 teaspoon of a hand dish washing detergent which does not contain lanolin or bleach with 1 quart of water; examples of safe detergents are Dawn® and Joy®.) Use a blotting motion to work the detergent into the affected area. If spot is being removed continue applying detergent and blotting with a white paper towel until spot is removed.

Rinse with tap water using a spray bottle, blot to remove excess moisture.

Spray lightly with water, do not blot this time; apply pad of paper towels and brick and allow to dry.

If there is still some stain on the carpet and blotting is not removing it, then moisten the tufts in the stained area with 3% hydrogen peroxide. Let stand for on (1) hour. Blot and repeat until carpet is stain free. Light will cause peroxide to change back to water so no rinsing is necessary. Apply pad of paper towels and weight down with brick.

I know this sounds strange but hear me out.
A carpet cleaner salesman taught me to use Windex on a carpet spot - it was amazing.
I've used it on all sorts of spots - fresh and old - needs more work on the old though.
It's ammonia based - most stains are oil based - but works just as well on non-oil based.
Spray on - rub in with fingers about 30 seconds - use a cotton dishcloth to rub it off.
It's prolly in your cupboard now - what have you got to lose. (doesn't turn it blue either)

we use DAWN to remove just about everything that is dirty. that is some amazing stuff. If Dawn won't get it out we use a product called Mean Green. Get it at Dollar stores. It is an amazing product too. Cuts grease and dirt in just a few seconds. You have to rinse Mean Green but its worth it. m

Rub with club soda, lemon juice or salt.

Or use a steam cleaner.

Awesome carpet cleaner is very inexpensive and it works well - although a little rubbing is involved - use a soft bristle brush
