I think renewing your vows depends on why you separated in the first place. It was important to me, but not my husband to renew ours after a separation. To me, the old vows had been "broken" and needed to be respoken and made again. It took my husband a while to really understand this and why it was important to me.... After all, your vows and your "word" are very important. We are going to do it on a cruise soon with our children there.

My friend was married for 18 years and went through a rocky patch. She then decided that they should renew their marriage vows and went back to the place where they got married and had the same best man there etc. 6 months later they separated and are now divorced. Be careful, it can be like a band aid. Just enjoy each other and be thankful that we managed to get back together and work had on your relationship without contrived things like renewing your vows. Good luck.

In the first 6 months we reached a point of total honesty during a real bad fight. It hurt like hell but it's what saved our marriage. Because of that we renew our vows every year by memory. 9 years and still boinking like bunnies.

My parents did after being separated for a year too. My dad is a very special person and felt that if it would make my mother happy to do it then it should be done. He might not see the point in it but should at least consider how you feel about it!
