The Sex Pistols were punk but at the same time they were as manufactured as all the boy bands of the late 90's. They had a sleazy manager who didn't care about punk at all. Johnny Rotten wasn't really punk and Sid Vicious was an absolute poser. I think the Ramones epitomise punk better than anyone.

They started the punk movement, and essentially promoted anarchy. Essentially, to just about any question about the Sex Pistols, the answer is "because they didn't give a f*ck."

Great music, though.
