this year my bushes did not produce a single berry. Does anyone know the proper way to prune, when to prune so that my currant bushes will reap a nice harvest next year? Thanks, I'm really looking forward to berries again.

AS STATED BY THE FIRST ANSWER, YOU DON'T PRUNE CURRENT BUSHES, EXCEPT IF THEY ARE DAMAGED. YOU CUT OUT THE DAMAGE ONLY. DEER AND RABBIT LIKE TO CHEW ON THEM SO BEWARE.
YOU MIGHT WANT TO PUT SOME HORSE MANURE AROUND THEM IN THE FALL, BUT DON'T OVER DO IT.

I never heard of the need to prune currant bushes to guarantee a good yield the next year. But if your bushes are newly planted they will take at least a season of growth to produce berries.
