Many more doctors are family practitioners who practice internal medicine. Children and adults can be seen by them. It is to your advantage to continue to see a pediatrician, but, no, it is not true that you have to see one until you are 21, although you can, and some people do. A pediatrician is equipped to handle anything that you need for your health, even pelvic exams, until you are 21. You will generally receive the best care as a child from a pediatrician with privileges at a Children's Hospital. This is a rather immature thing to argue or fight with your parents about. They are paying for your medical care, and as such, you should respect that they want you to get the best care.

I would think you can see whoever you want at this time. A good point was made that maybe you should check with the insurance company - although I do think 21 is pretty old to go to a pediatrician. You should have your first "adult" exam at 18, and I don't know if your pediatrician will have the tools to do the job.

I don't see how that could be true. At 17 you should be able to go to a general practitioner- even a gynecologist!
17 almost seems too old for a pediatrician- maybe go ahead and ask your pediatrician to recommend a gynecologist- after all, you are probably experiencing everything (medically) that women go through.
Maybe talk to your parents about it. Approach it as you are wanting to take care of your body, and you are planning for your future needs.

whats the difference between an adult doctor and pediatrician? one deal with tiny children , the other deal with older people, well my mom told me along time ago that the only difference between a woman and a girl is the woman is having sex. some girls have sex at a young age and have babies. no that's not true.

When my daughter turned 16, she started seeing a family medicine doctor. That is a doctor who is skilled not only in pediatrics, but also adult medicine. You are definitely old enough to have an adult doctor.

typically at the same time as a lady enters middle college medical doctors are required to target this. i'm particularly confident she did not choose a breast exam besides the undeniable fact that ... ? besides , she may have in straightforward words regarded apprehensive because you've been contained in the room with her. you should likely stay contained in the room and take a examine out to do the suited you could to diminish what her wellbeing care professional is searching for .
