1. Joe Nathan
2. Johnathan Papelbon
3. Justin Verlander
4. Johan Santana

I used Bill James' Cy Young prediction formula, as of August 9th numbers, and assumed that Detroit, Boston, New York, and Minnesota went to playoffs, without these assumptions, Nathan still was the number 1

Just as a note: on final season stats, the formula has been 81% accurate...and I agree with this prediction, but I would go as far to guess that Papelbon will eventually beat out Nathan.
...and for everyone saying Halladay...if I considered the Blue Jays a winning team, he would be at the #3 slot, very close to second.

no longer till he pitches a suitable recreation, or has another astounding feat, those stats arent sufficient for him. the yanks' triumphing wont help both considering they have the variety of tremendous call lineup. cliff lee leads the league in era and is 12-2 with a cellar crew, francisco rodriguez is at the moment on %. to interrupt the only season saves record in dominating fashion, roy halladay has a sub-3.00 era and is the in hardship-free words reason the blue jays are even on the breaking point of .500. im a diehard orioles fan, and that i appreciate mike mussina besides. hes having a magnificent season and delivers the yankees a much extra effective probability of triumphing, yet he wont get the cy youthful award. my wager is cliff lee, perhaps ok-rod.

it wont be liriano or santana, since they'll each steal votes from each other, plus the fact that liriano's out. not verlander either because he's not gonna keep up his pace. Schilling should get consideration, but unless he carries the Sox to the pennant, no not the playoffs, the World Series, he won't win. If things don't change, Halladay, no doubt

If he comes off the DL in good form, I'm thinking Liriano. Outside of Weaver and Liriano (And they're mostly impressive due to the fact they're rookies), no one's pitched an incredibly exceptional year.
