It's a very basic procedure and I know that some crazy women pierce their own skin without even disinfecting the needle using heat. Any moron can do it. If you have the piercing tool, then it makes it all that much easier! The only thing you have to worry about is learning how to take care of it. Now my question is, why would you want to deform your body for something that will look gross for 4 months, and then bother you for the rest of your life? Although, you can always take it out!

Contrary to popular belief (the rest of the people above or below me), humans don't die from infections anymore. We're way past that in today's medicine. You can always get antibiotics if anything goes wrong. The worst case scenario is that he pierces it wrong and makes it too shallow or off center.

I would say it's cool
It's not rocket science

Two bad things could happen
you could get an infection of some kind that you'd need to go to a doctor to get fixed - that's pretty unlikely
he might not be very good at it and might not put the hole in the most attractive place - that's the only thing I'd really be worried about

I guess if your mom's piercing looks good, then he's a pretty good bet!

well if your mother got hers done by him and nothing happened that's ok. but people should be going to a piercing shop to have it done in a sterile environment and not at home. because if something does go wrong, the business insurance can take care of it versus the dude who will do it at your house. besides they have to be licensed to do that

BE SURE YOU SEE HIM TAKE THE NEEDLE HE PIERCES YOU WITH OUT OF THE BAG. look at the bag make sure its unpunctured and sealed before he takes it out, that way you know its sanitary. and as long as your mom's looks right and is pierced with a size 14g hoop and is straight you should be fine, and as long as you clean it a couple times a day it wont get infected.

What the heck is your mom trying to prove at her age? I think you're wise to question the safety involved, regardless of what your parent did. Do you consider her a little immature, or do your friends think she rocks......or both?
