First: Find out what jobs will be in demand when you graduate. You can go to the Bureau of Labor's website: http://www.bls.gov/oco/home.htm to find out the jobs are predicted to be in high demand. This is critical since some of the highest paying jobs are also those expected to grow slower than average - no matter how much perceived income you could earn; if there is no substantial demand for someone with your skills/education - you'll end up broke.

Second: Make an honest attempt to assess your natural abilities. Use this information to create a list of career fields which require the use of your natural talent. Then conduct your research only on those jobs. I can't tell you how many people I've interviewed and worked with who selected a career field based on income potential rather than their natural ability. Consequently, they are not only miserable in what they do everyday, but they are not earning what they thought they would since they don't excel at their job.

Bottom Line: Find something you believe you can be good at, try to network with people who are actually in that line of work. Your earnings potential will be greatest when your talents are fully utilized.

Good luck!
