I have tried Active X before and it was a nightmare.
All I want to do is to get MSN Updates (automatic).
Is there anyway that I won't have to intall it and still get some good honest updates?
My 'puter is ok.....so far. But, these little things that are popping up telling me that some of my security is no longer available unless I subscribe.
Anybody......got any ideas?

If you followed the first guys advice it is time unfollow it. Go back to Internet Options>Advanced tab an click the Restore defaults button. If you check everything for activex you open your computer to infections.

ActiveX is much safer today, although not perfect. Windows has set up protections by blocking unsigned ActiveX and allowing you to check their security certificates before downloading.

The activex at MS update site is safe. The updates system is safe and you should now use the AutoUpdating feature. You need the protections the Updates provide.

normally popups are spam and shoud be ignored.
True security warnings that you want are ones you go look for.
In activeX controls you can turn off popups.
Also, Mozzilla Firefox is a good browser for security. A lot of sites are hooked on MS so you need to switch, I have 1 site out of 2 dozen that I frequent that I need to use IE for.
