Come on guys , let's get this answer right. The six simple steps to a proper charge when you have a leak.

#1 - find leak.

#2 - Recover freon from system.

#3 - Repair leak.

#4 - Install a new filter drier. Never, Never, Never open a system without installing a new filter drier.

#5 - pull a vacuum on system down to somewhere near 100 microns. We do know what a micron is, don't we?

#6 - charge system with amount specified on unit and check for proper operation.

From empty:
Replace leaking components
evacuate to 12(?) inches of mercury
for 30min
charge with liquid 1st specified amount
then with Gas using a guage set until recommend low and side pressures are reached.
