There'e the routing number- that tells what bank the check is from- always 9 numbers. Then there's the account number- usually 10 numbers but it can vary.

any were from 7 -15 about like some said it depends on the bank. The routing # must have 9 numbers!

There's a routing number... an account number ... and the individual check number.
In this order... 10-10-4, respectively
That's probably the norm.

In my experience in the finance industry, Credit unions can have as few as four, banks usually have 7-13. Sixteen digit checking acct. numbers are actually credit card numbers.
