It's ASCII character 179 '│'

You can make it by holding down the alt key and tapping the number pad keys 1, 7, and 9...then releasing the alt key.

Part of the so-called 'extended' ASCII character set, it was an integral character in drawing text boxes and such back in the days when MS DOS ruled and MS Windows was scorned by the computer elite. :) Access to extended characters is all but a lost art...

Are you talking about the character that is above the \ on the keyboard? If so, then it's called a Vertical Bar.
