The one around here could be cleaner; I'm a Target man, myself.

I find good prices there and a friendly environment. The big box stores look horrible. None can compare to the atmosphere you would find at a store like Macy's or Alexanders from years back, when they had friendly sales people and chimes.

These stores look like big junk traps.

I stick with J.C. Penney and Kmart. Now that Kmart merged with Sears, I'm hoping to see the Sears stores looking like Kmart.

Alexanders was a local department store in N.Y., and today although it doesn't sell anything, the land it owns is worth a fortune, so if you owned it's stock, you did very well with it.

Similar with Kmart and Sears. The new Sears Holding Company has stock which is valuable due to the many pieces of land these stores own, and that's what makes the price of the stock stay high.

They will quickly sell any store that isn't producing, and turn it over for it's land value.

Kmart is under aggressive management.

I'm not a Kmart fan. I have a Super K not too far from me, and while the meat prices are reasonable, the other grocery items tend to be quite high. The food selection is limited in terms of brands, and I frequently find that items are either at or past the expiration date. On the retail side of Kmart, their products aren't made that well for what they're charging. I can see why they have had financial problems: the store doesn't compete on price, it's poorly marketed, and their products are substandard next to competitors. I don't see them coming out on top unless there is a serious change of management.

I think they advertise great sales on items they do not stock, ie bait and switch. It's happened to me plenty of times. There isn't even shelf space where it would have been before it sold out!
