If you have kids, get involved in the kids' activities, e.g., volunteer as a class mother or chaperone for sports activities.

I think there are organizations for military dependents; you might look into that.

The old stand-bys have been around for a while for a reason - people seem to think they work: sign up for a class in something that interests you (something ongoing, hopefully something that encourages interaction, like an art class that meets for 6 weeks), join a book club, do volunteer work, join a service organization like Rotary or Kiwanis, join a church if that's up your alley. My personal add-on to that advice is only do things that interest you, because you don't want to meet people you have nothing in common with.

As the other folks have said, "go out" is the key - outside your house, where other people are. But I thought I'd add a bit more, as if I were you, I'd be asking go where?

Go to a jazz club, spoken word cafe, bookstore, somewhere where people gather for entertainment and stimulation.

You can find women's groups online or even through the bookstores. Then there is always the mall.

You can join a class doing something creative and crafty. That's also a great way to meet new friends. The possibilities are endless.

Maybe try joining a group - for books, or cooking, or volunteer your time - there you can find others that have something in common on which you can base your friendship....good luck
