You can use those silicone scar pads (they're not prescription) IF the scars are raised (keloid scars.) If they're flat or dip down into the surrounding skin, skip the scar pads--they won't really work on those kind of scars, so don't waste your money.

You can use Mederma or generic-type scar creams, ointments, oils, or lotions. But if you are using the scar pads, skip the creams--the pads won't stick if there's a cream residue on the scar.

And if you get new cuts--ALWAYS put on antibiotic ointment or antiseptic ointment while it's fresh and bandage them suckers up. Scar prevention is way easier than removal. I personally like the Nexcare bandages that are waterproof and stick all around the injury so they don't get wet or dirty while they heal. If you have a bruise, try Burt's Bees Res-Q ointment--it really helps heal bruises faster (but I don't know if it works on scrapes and I wouldn't put it on cuts. But that's just me.)

Use Mederma or a less expensive alternative is put Vitamin E on the scar every night. Also, they sell makeup at department stores Dermablend for scars/acne or SmartCover which can be ordered online. You can go into the Department store and have the cosmetic counter person apply it and find the correct color for you.

if the scars aren't old, try either Mederma or Scarguard (it's a bit pricey, but the results are well worth it). both can be found at most drugstores, but i've only seen Scarguard in Walmart & Target.

if you're treating old scars, try using liquid vitamin e and keep it on the scar(s) until it dries. that's about the best treatment you can give.

There is this really good cream called Mederma. You'll have to ask your doctor for a prescription and he/she may have some samples to give you. You have to use it fairly religiously for a while but it does work.
