I lived in a complex that was not professionally pest controlled and the roaches came from all over the building, even though our apt. was clean! Now I live in a comlex that is professionally tended, and no bugs (yay!).
Having a cat can help, sure, but I think it really depends on the gravity of your situation...if your house is being overrun, I would take it up with the management!! Because that can feel like a hopeless situation, and I'm not sure that getting a pet for the sole purpose of pest control is the best idea.

What happens is if they spray over there, the roaches will leave and go to your place. See if you can schedule spraying for them at the same time. Oh and roaches like to eat things such as the backing of electrical tape -- found THAT out the hard way. We had a roach problem (and we're clean) and it turns out there was electrical tape behind a counter but I couldn't see it -- they were going after that. We fixed it, sprayed and problem solved. You don't have to be "dirty" to have a roach problem. Kind of like Rats -- they LOVE orange trees and fruit trees and DO attract them. Just a pieces of useless information (but I'm in Florida too and you learn this stuff). Just hope you don't get fire ants -- THEN you have a problem.

Roaches can eat anything organic, so unfortunately anything you use to fill the holes needs to smell. Epoxy should do the trick, only smells for a while, and you can paint over it later. Yes, a cat would do wonders for getting rid of the roaches, but you'll have to be prepared for the occasional "gift" roach that it brings directly to you. ;)

Being the owner of cats, I don't think so. Although it might keep the cat busy. They like free toys the best. I think you are doing all you can except reporting your neighbour to your local health board or the landlord. Good Luck!

No, a cat will not go after or repel cockroaches. If anything, having cat food around will only attract more of them.

canned foam insulation is best but it smells. next would be wood filler and spackling. they smell less. my cat kills them because he plays with them to death. if you use poison to kill the roaches, be careful with the cat because it may eat them and get poisoned, too.
