Even though the US population continues to shifts to the south & west, New York City's population continues to grow & far exceeds the nation's second largest city. What is unique about New York that draws so many people from other parts of America (and the world) not only to visit, but to seek & take up residency?

some people like a lot of things to do and a lot of place to go..museums, parks, restraunts and such. I grew up in Fort Lee, NJ which is just across the GW bridge from NY. I have gone to the city many times and stopped going after the 1970's. It got too dirty, and crowded for me. And the crime was going up. I moved away from NJ in 1975...and have not been back since...and I don't want to...
It is easy to "get lost" in a city that big if you want to get lost and not be found....and at this point in time it is very expensive to live there unless you live in a slum area....I have friends that live there to this day and what they tell me is why I don't want to go back,,,not even for a visit.
