Hmmm!!! Where do I start?? Ok, I'll just start to name a few!!
If I could go back in time, I know I would like to go back and hang out with my parents because I think it might be funny and interesting to see what they were like when they were growing up.. I would like to go back to the late 60's and early 70's and buy a few musle cars and preserve them in a controlled invironment so I could have them now... I too would like to see some dinosaurs.. I would like to go back and enjoy some time before electricity and all the neat things we take for granted today... I would like to see the landing on the moon live on a black and white television... I would like to go back to the 80's and be more serious about school... I would like to go back and get my fingers in my Mom's homade chocholate cream pie... I would like to go back and help Noah build his Ark... I would like to have seen some of the first olympic games in person... So these are just to name a few that comes to mind, Im sure I could easily come up with more!! If you want to here more, you know all you have to do is ask!! Take Care!!

Very difficult just to make one choice, the list would be too long to publish. Some have already suggested some of the most notable events in our history, The Greeks, the Egyptians, Romans, the crusades, Renaissance Europe, not forgetting the American war of Independence, Lincolns assasination. Need I go on ?
However, I think I would have to choose Bethlehem 2000 yrs ago.
Not because I'm religious in any sense of the word, just so that I could see once and for all what really happened with the advent of Jesus and whether or not he really was crucified and if the resurrection REALLY happened.
I'm assuming of course we could come back and tell the whole world the truth of whatever we saw.......

I would use a sniper rifle to pick off a certain couple as they rode a donkey to Bethlehem.
Not because I am a christian hater, but to add a further sense of the miraculous to the story. Not only was she a virgin, but she had an exit wound the size of a grapefuit.
On a serious note, I would have liked to have seen Rome at its height of glory and maybe warned Julius Ceaser that Brutus wasnt to be trusted. I would have had a quiet word with General Haugue prior to the Somme and maybe demonstrated the folly off his tactics, then again I would have prevented the murder of ArchDuke Franz Ferdinand and diverted WW1 too.
I would have bought Churchill, Roosevelt, the Duke of Wellington, Nelson, Napoleon, Martin Luther King, Lenin, Trotsky, Mother Teresa, Robespierre, Abraham Lincoln, Oliver Cromwell, Alexander teh Great, Socrates, Plato and Aristotle a few others a pint of beer, or in other cases a cup of tea, and just listened to them so I could learn more about them as a person and seen, for ebtter or worse, the things that made them what they were.
Ps. Sorry about the Virgin Mary assasination joke, I mean it only as a laugh.

One of the best short stories I ever read was by Ray Bradbury. He wrote about a time traveler that took modern copies of Poe and other masters into the past. He found the authors just before they died and showed them how their works were loved well into the future. I cannot think of a better use than this, to give back without changing the present.

This is a really cool question
History could so easily be changed in a ton of different ways its hard to choose. Really, if I could go back into time, I'd give Charlie Chaplin a wedgie or make the Romans wear pants. IDK though it's hard to think of history being different, because where would we be today?
As far as being a part of something, this will sound so morbid, but I would've liked to have been part in the Salem Witch Trials. The thing of it is, I don't believe any of it was real, and I would've let everyone have a piece of my mind. I would've been hung for it, but I could've gone like John in the Crucible--before I got to say Amen. How dramatic. I also woulda skinned the girl responsible for it alive. What a loser.
But most of all, I'd just like to travel back to Nam times. I hate hearing how the soldier were treated when they got home, and I would've stuck up for them had I been there. Nobody deserves to be treated that way when they have been through so much, especially because most just did it because they had to. It frusterates me to learn about it. It was unjust the way they were treated and I would give anything to go back and start a rally against people treating them so miserably.

The 1400s would be great, be at the point of time when the Ming Dynasty of China was established after the defeat of the Barbarians then known as the Yuans (Folks of Mongolian descendants). And then the beginning of the expeditions of Admiral Cheng Ho to the South-East Asia.

I'd like to see a dinosaur, and take a few photos. Imagine seeing a Dino!!! Wow, they're like, the size of a bus and proper monsters. I've always wanted to see a Dino, since I was a wee boy.
I really, really hope there's a scientist working somewhere, either on a time machine, or a Jurassic park type discovery. Man, I'd LOVE to see a Dinosaur (a big one, not a small one, probably a Diplodocus or a Pterodactyl, or a T Rex, or even a Stegosaurus, or Triceratops; they're definitely my favourite Dinosaurs)
I'm really glad you asked this, I can't stop thinking about Dinosaurs now!

If I could back, the time would be the year 331 B.C. or before. I always wanted to be in the time of Alexander The Great and ride and fight beside him. I think one of the best moments in his life, was in the battle of Gaugamela, when he defeat Dario, with his thousands of soldiers and horses, and his tactics... In the middle of the battle, I see Alexander fighting, but someone appears behind, the enemy with a sword is going to kill him for the backward!! But I'm there, and I help... when I read the History, I can feel the anxiety, so I think this is one of the events that I would like to be if I could back... but I still believe I lived in those days... in another life. Alexander was really great and his influence can be considered one of the pillars of the today society.

I would like to have been a wealthy Roman at the height of the Empire enjoying the wealth and the fruits of conquest. I would love to have a villa with underfloor heating and mosaic floors. I would treat my slaves well and they would happily accept their lot, enjoy the opulance that surrounds them and willingly do my bidding. I would drink fine wines and eat well. All around me would be the public art and symbols of power of Rome. At the Colluseum I would occupy a shaded seat as I watch the spectacle of blood, combat and slaughter unfold before me. I would secretly belong to a Bacchanalian cult and meet my friends for worship in a hidden vault. The females in my household would prostrate themselves before Priapus in celebration of their good fortune. My life would be surounded with music, art and drama, I would be very largely beyond the law....a free man indeed.
I can't think of an era more unlike our own, it is sobering to think that what I describe above is what the Romans called respectability. Respectability aint no fun anymore. On the other hand there is less chance of being crucified now in contemporary Italy (mafiosi victims excluded)....so reasons to be cheerful I suppose (sigh).
