It is the difference between giving the impression that you are orderly, organized, willing to put forth an effort and care about what you do (business attire), and being easy-going, care-free, unorganized and possibly lazy.
Now, don't get me wrong. Dressing that way does NOT mean the person is that way, I'm just saying that it give that impression to other people who don't know you. And it depends. A person dressed in casual clothes in a situation that it is appropriate would not be viewed as "lazy". It is all about dressing appropriately for the situation.
Wearing sweat pants and a tank top to work in an office is highly inappropriate and gives the impression of a lazy slob. Just as someone wearing a business suit to a pool party would be viewed as an anal retentive jerk.

Yeah cuz the way u dress is the way u present yourself, when a woman dresses conservatively she gives off the vibe that she is more of a formal person rather than carefree which is the case when women wear tanktops but usually if u get to know that person ull find that the clothes arent a real representation of the persons personality and u might be surprised..

That is really true. Some people even feel better, more professional when they have on business attire. Employers seem to think that if you dress professional, then you will act professional and therefore be more productive. I feel professional when I dress professional, but I don't think it affects my work. In my opinion either you have work ethic or you don't.

I'm in my late 20's and I usually get carded when I wear street clothes, yet NEVER get carded when I'm dressed in business clothes. People just give you more respect in general when you look like you've possibly done something with your life.

of course, it's a matter of judging a book by its cover. You can be the sluttiest prosti out there, but if you wear the right clothes, make-up, and hairstyle, people will treat you like royalty (like you;re something important)

It's called packaging. When you dress well, you are expressing respect to the people you meet. And that respect will be returned by them. Also, they may get the impression you are somebody, and they certainly wouldn't want to get on your wrong side.

I read something about that once. Whether you're into fashion or not, clothes are a reflection on you. Many times people make assumptions on your character by the way you look.
