On the diplomatic front, the United States cannot abandon the field to other nations (not even France!) or the United Nations. Every secretary of state from Henry Kissinger to Warren Christopher and Madeleine Albright negotiated with Syria, including those Republican icons George Shultz and James Baker. Why won't this administration follow suit, in full consultation with Israel at every step? This would clearly be in Israel's interest. Instead, administration officials refuse direct talks and say publicly, "Syria knows what it must do" -- a statement that denies the very point of diplomacy.

Richard Holbrooke, former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations

Looks like we a blundering our way to disaster.

Here's the plan

1)Invade Iraq
2)Make lots of money for your buddies (and yourself later on)
3)"Stay the course", at least until your buddies tell you their profits are drying up.
4)Lie
5)Lie some more
6)Keep Lying.

I truly don't understand Bush's thought process. If we are allies with a country like Saudi Arabia than we can participate in diplomatic talks with Syria. I was talking with a couple of people about Bush today and they were saying, "Bush just doesn't care about anyone but evangelicals, and other republicans." I disagree I think he believes truly that he is doing what is best for this country. The fact that he is unable to listen to anyone who doesn't share is ideological views, or even his employers the American people is going to leave this country cleaning his mess for many years in the future.

Sorry guy,

I think the only plan Bush is working on, is the New World Order...

They are just creating the "right major crisis" they need to make the Nations swallow the New World Order.

Bush is "knight of Maltha", a "Skull and Bone " member. It's the western faction of the Bavarian Illuminatis.

It appears the plan is for Israel to destroy Lebanon, and then the UN. provides the army to disarm Hezbollah.

It it all works out, Syria will be next on the list

Of course, The USA has helped plan this, and probably is talking to / threatening Syria behind the scenes.

We have make the distinction between what is in Israeli polititians interests, and what is in the interests of the Israeli people, kinda like we have to in the USA ;)

Peace dude

Yes the NSA assessment gives him a heads up on what might could and should happen.

The Security assessment for Iraq was 2 paragraphs long. Though secret it probably read "Wast'um" "Get the oil and run"

I say run only because the whole pile of weasel politicians have been saying for years "don't run" Why else would they make a big deal out of running.

Yup, the plan is blow everyone else up asap. If they fire on Iran, there goes the neighbourhood, I think a general labour strike is in order. stock up on the tins, and hold out for a few weeks for a total change in government. would be a great way to get to know everyone in your neighbourhood again.

Bush's long term strategic plans have nothing whatsoever to do with National Security and protecting US forces - they're OK, Bliar (not a typo...) has sent the UK troops in...

Bush's long terms strategic plans have everything to do with safegurading his family's wealth and income from oil...

Yeah, I read the whole Wash. Post article you failed to mention in your "question." The part I like best was,

"And we must be ready for unexpected problems that will test us; they could come in Turkey, Pakistan, Egypt, Syria, Jordan or even Somalia -- but one thing seems sure: They will come."
