It's counter-productive.

Focusing on just one obvious racial group ignores all the other fanatics. Not to mention that many terrorist organizations recruit people from their target countries, who blend right in along with everyone else. So, right there, your proposed system would have failed to catch most of the problems.

Airport security is primarily for the peace of mind of the travelers. A competent terrorist can always find a way to get something on board that can do the trick.

Racial profiling won't stop the problem. Any more than having people take off their shoes before going through the scanners did. Security measures are designed to give travelers peace of mind, and they focus mainly on whatever the latest problem was because that's what people are worried about now.

The only thing that has any possible chance of even slowing down airline terrorist activity is to make it so difficult for the terrorists to tell what gets scrutinized that they can't take obvious steps to avoid it. The more predictable your security measures are, the easier it is to get past them.

Profiling doesn't help. But if you absolutely want to guarantee that the next few terrorist attacks succeed, then by all means. Focus on just one obvious subset of the population and ignore all the rest.

I don't think it's absolutely necessary but it shouldn't be completely abandoned.
It has been shown to work in some other countries, so I don't agree that it's counter-productive. To the contrary, if it's racial profiling to assume that a 90 lady in a wheel chair with her 4 year old grand-kid is probably not a terrorist, then by all means, profile. It isn't 100% effective, it may not have caught McVey but if it works 10% of the time, it's worth doing.
If it's not politically correct to question or search anyone just their name is Mohamed or Ali, tough.

Yeah racial profiling is bad, however we have gotten so use to it in this country that it part of our life and it hard to turn back. Racial profiling is stupid, because people from all walks of life commit crimes.People always want to blame problems on someone rather than themselves thats why they use racial profiling. It is not right when people say it does not matter if whole races are put down for better security, because it does.

You know, in the interest of national security, why not? Would it be better that they totally let all middle eastern looking people go faster in order not to offend anyone?

I mean, I'm a racial mutt. I don't care if they tell me to step aside so that they can wand me. I don't care!

I want to be able to get on that plane and get to where I'm going safely.

Racial profiling will ALWAYS happen. EVERYWHERE. Not one person can be honest when they say that when they see a certain hairstyle, skin color, or dress that they don't have preconceived ideas about this person.

It's the state of our world.

It is now a fact of modern life. Profiling in times of peril is not unethical if it will save more lives than otherwise, and the expense is at best a minor discomfort to a particular group of people, many of whom welcome the discomfort as their own lives are at risk at well.

No it is not. However as long as the human race as a whole can't get past its own hate and fear it will go on. All we can do is stand up to it and pray.
