It was back in '86 when I ate a fortune cookie. I ate it whole, then pulled the fortune out of my mouth. It said, "Being forgetful can cause you choke."

Fortune cookies are actually "American" and not "Chinese" and date back to the early 1900's. Beleive it or not, the VERY first fortune cookie factory built and opened in China was not until 1993! To answer your question, there is no etiquette for eating a fortune cookie. Most people do not like the texture of fortune cookies and will not eat it. Personaly, I like the taste and always eat the cookie after reading my fortune.

I carefuly break open my cookie and read my fortune and either agree if its for me or deside I got the wrong cookie. Never eat the cookie.Dont even think about it.

I eat it. In fact, I liked them so much that when I lived in San Francisco I use to buy the round rejects by the bag.
