My wife and daughter started their trip yesterday night, but made a connection in Newark this morning. My wife said people were checking in virtually all bags except for personal purses (I don't know about laptops).
Check all bottles, tubes etc. in. They will throw EVERY bottle or container with liquid away in carry-on.
Don't forget to put electronics into checked luggage as well.

They were trashing all of the things you mentioned. I would say go ahead and try the little sample packets and the deodorant but be prepared to have it thrown away. I guess the ''the terrorists'' have found yet another way to bring bombs and other harmful things aboard. You may want to go earlier then usual just to be on the safe side because security is heightened so it'll probably take even longer then usual. I don't know how often you fly but those security checks are horrendous. they do everything except bend you over and such your butt crack if you ask me. I know they're trying to keep us safe but nothing is really safe anymore. I remember going through security and the metal in my bra (the underwire going) going off and some security person made me spread my legs hold my arms out, run the little security thing over my body then fill me up to make sure that my underwire was the problem......but anywhoo have a safe flight gurlie.

My children traveled today from Orlando, Florida. I believe security through the NYC/LON airports was much stricter. They didn't have any problems. Absolutely no liquids, except baby formula which a parent must drink at security.
UPDATE: Stick deodorant is being confiscated and I presume gel deordorant is being confiscated too.

I don't know if this helps any or not, but I heard somewhere that you can check the airline (whichever one you're going on)'s website and they list things you cannot take with you on your flight. Last time I was on a plane, all they took were my little kid scissors I used to cut and paste pictures into my journal (quite a while ago, before 9/11, too.) I hope that's right, and I hope it helps!
Have a fun and safe trip! I love travelling.

I have clients who flew today. No liquids whatsoever are being allowed in a carry on bag. You can still carry them in checked luggage. This includes contact lens solution, lotion, baby formula, everything! It sounds like the easiest thing would be to put it all in your checked bags... and plan to check in extra early for the additional security screenings.
P.S. I just read that they're even making you toss lip gloss!

i doubt it, i don't think any thing liquid only baby milk that has to be tasted or medication that will be needed, on the flight, but i think a deodorant stick would be fine.

I have never heard of them taking those types of items. I travel at least once a month from IL to TX and have never had those taken. The only thing I have had taken are my lighters. Yet they give you matches to replace them. Kind of silly, if you ask me.
