Love it!!! And there is nothing wrong with just being an EMT or a paramedic. EMS is an integral part of emergency medicine. After all, if the patient doesn't make it to the ER alive, all the RNs and MDs in the world cannot make that patient live again. It is a career with a high burnout rate, though. It's a good idea to have another career in the works because the average EMT stays in the field only about 5 years.
Hope this helps!

I and most EMT's I've talked to love their job if they go on to becoming EMT-P (paramedics). Most EMT-B's burn out because 90% of the job is transporting elderly and long term care patients or being lackeys to the Paramedics.

There are other ways to get your kicks as a EMT Basic, like I've done for the past 15 years, such as Search and Rescue. I work a normal 9-5 job during the week and do ski patrol and SAR on the weekends. It's very rewarding and fun.
