I am going to be 16 weeks on Saturday and when I went to my prenatal appointment, my educator told me that my baby is about 3-4 inches long. Not that big yet right? So, what makes my belly bulge out so much and other pregnant woman as well?

Uterus, amniotic fluid, placenta, and baby. Plus, they are pushing everything else up and out, as well. Add to that and increase in maternal blood, perhaps retaining fluid as well, and the adjustment your body makes to try to store fat to have enough energy reserves to make milk, and there you have a pregnant belly showing through! I was into maternity clothes with both my children by 13 weeks. The first I gained 60 pounds, the second I only gained 24, even after losing ALL the baby fat from the first. Just depends on the woman, I guess, not necessarily the weight gain.

Your uterus is quite a bit bigger than the baby is. It it swollen with blood and the sack the baby is in, is filled with water and the placenta, still small, but put them all together inside you, especially if you were thin to start with, and you will show very early.
I gained a lot of weight during my pregnancy and I thoughthow could it be just from the baby. But, from the day she was born until my two week check, I lots 60lbs, IN TWO WEEKS!! My daughter weight 10 1/2 lbs (big girl) but thats still 50 lbs of water, blood, placenta and water just retained in my body. Its crazy, but there is a lot going on inside you besides the baby itself. If your getting big already, you should use cocoa butter on your belly every day to keep your skin stretchy and soft so you dont get so much stretch marks like I did. Congratulations and good luck!!!

It's ambiotic fluid and placenta. The bell bulge is also a hormonal reaction - water weight gain, your intestines and other organs moving out of the way to give your uterus room. The baby has lots of room at first to move and as the baby gets bigger the space becomes tighter. So you go from not feeling your child at all to feeling everything - and some babies do somersaults and punching and kicking like crazy, back down to feeling her/him only sometimes.

I'm 20 weeks barley showing with my 3ed, some women show sooner then others. It's not just the baby in their also you have lots of water that may cause you to look pregnant faster. Strangers still can't tell I'm pregnant.

Even though baby is tiny your uterus is constantly growing. You are also at the time where you're bowels have distented.
