I've lived in dubai all my life. Its a vibrant cosmopolitan city .If you like the sun /sand/ beach and shopping this is the place to be.Summers are really hot and humid , best time to visit would be around oct-dec.The dubai shopping festival starts in Jan & runs for a month you can get some good bargains. You can also try desert activities like desert safaris , dune bashing etc .Theres also dhow cruises (traditional arabic fishing boats) you can try.
The latest rage is the ski slope at mall of the emirates in dubai (i should warn you it will take a good day or 2 to see most of the malls in dubai , they are huge and wll take you hours to cover a single one).the ski slope is very popular with residents , as we dont ever get to see snow!.
hotels in dubai are of very high standards , in a 3 star hotel ypu can expect very good accomodation standards. they are not exactly cheap though . could cost you anywhere between Aed 500-700(1 UAE dirham =3.67 USD).
Getting around dubai , is difficult these days as the traffic situation is bad .they are putting in placea metro rail system , that is expected to be completed by 2009.so till then you have to depend on buses or cabs. cabs would be the better bet .
Night life is quite good in Dubai with lots of clubs and party spots.Good to come with a group of friends.

There are a lot of good hotels. I like the Palm Dubai hotel but I have stayed at some others but the only one worth mentioning in the Dubai Sheriton. It is really nice. I know a lot of people who really liked the Dubai Marina Spa and Resort but it is expensive. I usually book off of www.southtravels.com they get about the cheapest rates.
There is a lot to do for fun. I guess the main thing is the shopping. Ibn Battuta mall is really amazing to see and The Mall of the Emirates is pretty cool with the indoor ski hill. There are tons of good restuarants and good night clubs. For other fun you can do a desert safari or tours of Al Ain or Sharjah. Wild Wadi Water park is great fun too.

I haven't been there but I know a gal who lives there. She has told me about an indoor ski slope that sounds really neat. They also have the third largest mall in the world and alot of other things to do. As for hotels, Dubai caters to some very upper class people so I'm guessing most hotels are very nice but spendy. I'd google it if I were you.

Yesssssssss plenty of 5 stars hotels, in cluding Hyatt, Sheraton, Kempinsky, Hilton, Metropolitan, Le Meridian, Ritzh Carlton, Shangrilla, Fairmont, etc . Fun is everywhere here

i went two years ago it was really good theres a lot of nice hotels i cant help you with names sorry im hopeless for that but i remember things being really cheap over there we werent in a super posh hotel or anything but they all treat u like ur so important its great lol theres a massive shopping centre wi three floors u have to go see its amazing, and go see palm island it was being built when i was there its building in the sea in the shape of a palm tree course if youre minted you could stay in the 7 start hotel but somehow i doubt youve got a grand a night to spare lol worth drivin past tho

oh yes i live in Dubai!!!....there are a lot of places u can visit like the Mall of the Emirates,Ibn Battuta Mall,Jumeirah Beach,par etc.
