The Russian Ice Hockey Federation doesn't want him to come to the States. They have also been stubborn in signing an agreement to allow Russian NHL players to play in the World Tournament, the Olympics, etc. and vice versa. I believe he truly wants to play over here and with the Penguins but the Russian Federation keeps blocking it. Since he's a young guy, he hasn't grown up with the Russia-wins-everything- in international hockey like the older generation has. He has grown up with Russian players being in the NHL and winning the Stanley Cup so I think he would rather be over here, playing with a talent like Crosby, challenging another talent like Ovechkin instead of being stuck in Russia.

It is him, he loves it back home, Magnitogorsk is his hometown, being fluent in Russian I have read many of his interviews, and he thinks he's the best thing happen to Penguins hockey, at the same rate he loves his superstar status back in Russia, there he does in fact get paid more than he would under a rookie contract, and he wants to be considered no less than Crosby in the financial department, he wants to get equal if not more. Personally I think it's a good thing for Pittsburgh, sure he's a superstar there, but what happens when he gets to play with the big NHL boys, no offense to his superstardom but when the NHLers came to Russia during the lockout, he was on a line with Elias and Sykora, on which Patty mainly scored. So I'm not sure how worth it he is. They have Crosby, Fluery, Armstrong, Moore, Staal, they have a good young core, which can make chemistry with and without him.

Not sure he wants to play for the Penguins, per say, but they have the rights to him so I think he does. See I think he wants the money he thinks he will make in the NHL. Although I don't know how much he makes over there. Oh and keep in mind he is a superstar over ther eand making that money in a country where people don't have money still. So maybe he is a little happier there, considering the cost of living as well.

Malkin wants to play in the NHL, that's his dream since he was a kid he just wants another year to become a better player like Ovechkin did, sure Ovechkin got an extra year because of the lockout, but to some of these players it helps, you look at Teemu Selanne he wanted to stay in Finland for another 4 years before he finely came over to play he just wanted to get better and he set an NHL rookie record for 76 goals and 132 pts his rookie year, he still young, don't worry he will come.

and in the Russian League trust me they do have the money, look at the lockout year Lecavalier was making close to $6 million in Russia trust me they have the money that is the same team owner that owns Chelsea's football (soccer) club and hes rich, they do have the money for hockey in Russia.

i think malkin would want to play in the nhl. he probably wants to play in pittsburgh since he would get the chance to play with young stars like sidney crosby. maybe he's just not ready for the change from russia to the nhl.

He does want to play for the Pens. that's why he's renegotiated his contract. Instead of him playing 3 years in Russia, now it'd be 1 year. He'll go to Pittsburgh next year. Great for them.

He'll be in Pittsburgh this year.

He signed a multiyear deal because he could get more money. His club was hoping for a big transfer fee when the NHL came back. They're not going to get one.

I think he would much rather be in the NHL, it's just that the Russian hockey federation can make things very complicated.
