They were a local band in the LA scene back in the mid-80's. Their "hit" (if you can call it that...) was a song called "I'm on the Rag". If you do remember them, what was your news and views?

The Sterilles started out as an all-girl punk band and had a radio hit early on in their career with "I'm on the rag." Poor management and bad business practices took away any profit from that experience.

The band then slowly disappeared from the Hollywood rock scene until the mid 90s when, with the addition of Ian Bernard on drums, The Sterilles made a come-back of sorts.

The now almost all-girl band played true to its punk roots and continued playing some of the songs that made them nearly famous. They also got into some long, extended jams ala the Dead. All were fans.

The Sterilles only made it into the studio once in this incarnation, that was with Peggy and Shark at the dials. The songs eventually recorded were "black" and "Zima people" which had to have its name changed to protect the band from any law suits.

The girls are now married with children and as far as anyone knows not rockin the house any more. And they could rock when they wanted to. Ian is somewhere in NYC.
These two songs constitute the modern day roster of The Sterilles in the 90s. They also put out an extended EP (on vinyl no less!) with the original drummer Ashley Stewart on Screaming Skull Records (out of print).

I was friends with guitarist Dina Press and bassist Ann Leadingham. I was a very short time member playing a bit of lead guitar but not in the band very long before their first split.
