Sounds like a great price for the repair shop. Replacing the rack is a big job, but should not have been more than $500. Same goes with the power steering pump. That price you paid seems about double what it should be. Perhaps I did not get all the info.

You got hammered.. the pump is about $200-$300 and the rack is about $500 list at the Ford Dealer... any tech worth his weight could have replaced everything (hoses included)including labor for about $1300 .. and that's buying Ford Parts
BTW your truck is nothing but a Ranger in Mazda clothing
