Did you ever consider that you would be killed for treason in an autocratic society? The freedom is in the fact that you have the right to criticize the government. If you lived in Iran, the religious police would drive down to your house, put a bullet in your head, and bury you in the desert.

If you all are afraid of the government, why are you giving up your right to be armed? The whole reason Hitler was able to take the Jews away was because he disarmed the majority of them.

What is one thing that you could do 10 years ago that you can't do today? I can't think of a single thing. I myself can do many more things today than I could 10 years ago. With the expiration of the Clinton gun ban which severely limited my freedoms, I am able to purchase firearms that are dangerous to the government again.

Yes, and we are moving in the same direction, sadly enough. What...did you think this kind of political shift is something that happens overnight?!? Of course not. It happens gradually.

However, they already tried to limit our 1st Amendment rights with a Flag Burning ban, which didn't pass, thank God. I think burning the flag is disgusting...but I respect someone's right to express their views, regardless of how offensive or disgusting I find them. If that had passed, then what next? A ban on burning the president's picture? A slippery slope.

As for the "secret police" you mentioned, powers of the Secret Service have been shifted to the Dept. of Homeland Security. Think I'm kidding? Just visit the US Treasury website and see for yourself. And of course there's the unauthorized wiretaps, the un-Constitutional "Patriot" Act, the illegal domestic surveillance.

Lastly, there's also increased emphasis on security, militarization, nationalism, religion, disdain for dissent, etc.

Yup, we're on our way. Hopefully, the people of this great nation and a few level-headed politicians can reverse this thing that has been set into motion.

I absolutely have considered the things you pointed out, and they are why I'm so worried about the way this country is going.

It's not a very far leap from the liberties that have been thus far eroded to the conditions you describe above. Bushie & Co. would doubtless LOVE to be able to put a bullet in my head for disagreeing, they just haven't knocked the country down far enough yet to get away with it.

And just remember, once WE'RE all gone, they'll come for YOU, just like the Nazis did.

So your response is to take away freedoms?

This is a catch-22 argument. Of course we are more free here than in Iran - even modern Russia.

However, the opposite of your argument is - we have so many freedoms - why not give some up?

Then, we do become Iran.

What I don't understand from the other side is:
"Terrorists hate us because of our freedoms."

How is giving up those freedoms not letting them win?

I bought a magnet for a friend the other day that sums it up perfectly:

"Oh well. I wasn't using those civil liberties anyway."

That's the attitude I see from many on the Right today.

Religious blindness is never considered as FREEDOM!

I haven't been or lived there hence can't say. But being a citizen of the largest democracy (India) of the world, many times felt that, we the majority people of India are living like expatriates. Most of the places it is said, hey you can't do this bcz it is reserved for Minority & the like. This kind of approach is often found in most parts of India.

This isn't an autocratic society now is it? ...yet. Just look at history and how Fascist Dictatorships have come out of countries that were once Democracies.

There are too many similarities in the acts of the current government to ignore this very familiar pattern.

i'm happy to be waiting to remark in this. For the checklist, interior the Winnipeg unfastened Press, it mentioned, "the transfusions made little distinction interior the scientific state of any of the youngsters." So no longer in basic terms did it make LITTLE distinction, however the mothers and fathers' real to go with what scientific remedies they needed for his or her infants, grow to be taken faraway from them! be conscious, the mothers and fathers weren't refusing ANY therapy, only that particular form of therapy. those alternatives are made regularly occurring via mothers and fathers! for example, in case you have a baby with maximum cancers, the mothers and fathers ought to decide on, do they go with to do chemo, or radiation, or surgical operation. How might you sense in case your rights have been taken away, and somebody else desperate for you what grow to be going to happen to your baby?? as nicely, isn't it unbelievably ironic, that the medical doctors mentioned to those mothers and fathers, 'selective abortion' until eventually now the toddlers have been born, finally killing a number of them, and who refused????? the mothers and fathers! they chosen to grant ALL their toddlers a huge gamble. human beings ought to realize blood transfusions are previous college and are on the way out! There are greater effectual possibilities accessible that don't introduce different infections and ailments right into a physique it incredibly is already sick! do a sprint learn and you will see, that people who have not got blood transfusions, do plenty greater effectual than people who do, and are frequently released from wellbeing facility until eventually now. yet of direction the main severe reason to no longer have a blood transfusion, is by way of fact the Bible is sparkling that it relatively is incorrect to. (Acts 15:28, 29; Genesis 9:3, 4) Jehovah's Witnesses love their infants and go with what's superb for them! I applaud those mothers and fathers and that they are in my techniques and prayers. It boils all the way down to this: Who knows of what's superb for us, Almighty God who made us, or imperfect human medical doctors????

These are the same people who support the government taking away freedom to own guns, to enjoy success (wealth) and the freedom to express Conservative thought.

I pay them no respect.
