surely the funeral isnt late at night, but early evening? go to both. explain to the date that since you are a good friend and care about your friends you want to be there for said friends. surely the date will understand, if not then maybe it won't be such a bad idea to forget about them??

take the Hottie to the funeral....then go and do whatever you guys have planned....think of it as a detour. If your date is cool with it, thats awesome. I mean, its important to your friend and your friend is important to you...that should be important to you date.
bottom line, dont choose between them have 'um both. Who said you cant have your cake and eat it too?!?!

work around both or ask your date if he doesnt mind being late or going with u to the funeral and then going someplace
