I think that you/we are Just Black if we and our most recent Generations (up to like Grandparents) were born in America.

But Africans of Complete African Decent generationally, that have come to live in america are the actual "African"-Americans.

But Hey thats just My thoughts.

I saw a black guy on a talk show that said what is a Native-
American? He said he was born in the US, so he's native
american.
But what is an African-American? I found out my blood line goes back 900 years ago to Egypt. And that's in Africa! So I'm every bit as African-american as some guy whose granddaddy came from
Brooklyn!
As for reparations? Indeed, not all blacks in th US today are
direct descendents of blacks who suffered from slavery in this country. And blacks would stand a better chance at getting
reparations, if they got rid of the extremists who think every balck person in the world is owed by the United States.

I would have to say no, on your original question. There would be few if any blacks descended from slaves that could actually point to their origin point, much less country. Ethiopian or African, or half a dozen other countries. There was no paper trail or records...simply numbers of how many on one ship and things like that.
As for reparations...this would only apply if America waged war on your country. As it was in this country...whites fought whites for the freedom of the slaves and some other less than admirable reasons. So, what reparations could be made and to whom? We fought no war with China, but we did destroy many a Japanese city, so reparations are called for in that case. I know of no reparations for Jews?

Recent immigrants from Africa who become American citizens are also called African Americans. That is why I think people who are black and born in America should be called Black Americans. Did you know that African Americans (immigrants from Africa) often apply for and get special things that are actually meant for Americans who are the decendants of black slaves? I don't think that this is fair. Im white American of Scot/Irish/German heritage, so this is just my opinion. What I think black Americans should call themselves is not really any of my business.

Not only did Jews and Japs. get reparations, but so did the American Indians!

I think it is unfair that Blacks are the only minority race that hasn't been shown some form of reparations!

I'm not a big fan of the PC communities. Having said that, it would be correct to refer to the whites that were born in Africa and migrated to the US to be called African Americans.

Does that apply to say an American that gains citizenship in Spain to be rightfully called an American Spaniard. Or is this another USA based bias that only people who become americans can rightfully be called such

St. Toad is right....blacks born in America are "black Americans". If Africans (despite race or color) migrate here and become citizens then they qualify to be called African Americans.

African doesn't necessarily mean black....Africa is full of people from different ethinicities.....

Thats my view.....I'm black; from Africa :)

Boy are you in for a surprise! Where did your ancestors come from ? Europe? Thats a sad statement when you are brain-washed to accept that your heritage begins as a slave-tsk tsk tsk! Oh misguided one- the ancestors of that slave were free-men and the best that you can hope for is to be only the descendent of a slave?
"Jews" and "Japs" as you refer to them didnt deny their heritage, being of sound mind.
You seem to have lost your mind - it is still in Africa!
In an age where science has determined that all mankind originates from Africa - are you an extra-terrestial alien, perhaps?

White people want to keep you from your people and your history. Do you know the definition of Black? Why would you want to be described as that? and just because you do not know from where in Africa you originate does not mean you are not from there at all. Are you from black land? People are DNA testing so that we can reconnect with our people across the Atlantic. why not be part of the solution. peace

I call my self brown or black. I do think people could get some reparations but I think some people don't deserve any. For example, the people who hustle when they don't need to, don't deserve any.
