I think that Noah put the wood worm in a very thick wooden box, by the time flood had ended they ate their way out of the box and made it to dry land.

On a 24" x 24" thick block off wood. So they (there were two of them of course) had enough to eat and he had plenty of off-cuts from building the ark!
