It's hard to doubt it but some of your answers above are just totally wrong. Someone talked about his HR being up in '01. Maybe it's because they switched from the Astrodome to the Juice Box(Enron/Minute Maid, whatever you wanna call it.) He was always a little more muscular than the average baseball player, and over time(as with any lifter) it showed even more. But along with possible steroid use, has anybody ever thought that maybe the disappearance of the stigma about baseball players lifting weights could have had something to do with it. I continue to give him benefit of the doubt.
Considering one of his best friends on the team, Caminiti, used steroids and everybody suspects his death was because of it, it's hard to say Bagwell did with his comments after the death of his good friend. But then again I wouldn't put some type of substance use(legal or illegal) totally behind him.
PS - Why do people keep comparing 20 year old pictures to present day pics? If you look at many people 20 years ago, they are a lot bigger. Hell, I'm 40 pounds bigger than I was 4 years ago and that came from weightlifting and eating.

Well - maybe - we know other teamates he had used the juice - but Bagwell was known as a great hitter (for average and power) as a minor leaguer when he played for the Pawtucket Red Sox (AAA). However, it is certainly possible and would make the management in Boston look smarter than then did when they let him get away. Think if Bagwell had played in Boston and how many homeruns he would have had if he had half his games facing the Green Monster and/or the Pesky Pole. I think Marris' record would have been broken sooner.

Absolutely-- no question. Let's see-- did he start out kind of lanky, bulk up and hit the ball a mile, and then have all kinds of injuries? That's the general trend for roid users in baseball.
Roids are/were just as popular with pitchers. Remember that steroids basically rebuild muscle faster. Who's a better candidate than someone who continuously breaks down his arm/shoulder muscles from throwing overhand?

no question about it - look at 2001 - that is the year that homers took a big jump - Bagwell was a slap hitter and now his body is breaking down after years of steroid abuse
