I think my mom is just BS-ing me....but she told me that there is a way to tell when a DVD has been copied. That the disc gets a "ring" type thing on it. I dunno if you can see this or put in in something or what. I'm pretty sure there's no way to tell, but I wanna know for sure. And why she would make up such a lame lie. LOL thanks guys

ah ahahahahahahhahah

A DVD is short for DVD-ROM as in Read Only. There is no way to tell if ANY read only media, including DVD;s have been read for copying or just read to save on your hard drive or simply watched, no way at all.

Mom is correct. You can visually see when a DVD has had data copied to it. For example, when I copy a movie which takes up most but not all of the DVD space, I can see a change toward the outside rings.
But I'm not sure this works for all DVDs. I just looked at a commercially burned DVD and saw no change in its appearance.
So it may be true for personally burned DVDs but not some commercially burned ones.
Sorry my answer is not definitive.

The DVD being copied is not in a DVD burner, so the drive reading it has no way of making any kind of mark on it.

your mom is right dear.... a dvd can be either burned or be punched.. burning is what happens when you copy a dvd using your computer's dvd writer.. an original disc if you purchase it, the disc would be punched.. you can distinguish a punched disc from a burned disc easily. look at the bottom of the disk if its golden or if its like plain then its a punched disc, if there are two distinct color then its burned. the colors come due to the burning, he area where datat is present becomes lighter..

Well you can definately tell if a DVD is copied if it has no artwork on the disc or says some company and DVD+R on it.

when you burn a cd or dvd you can see the marks and also the color changes a little, but difficult to see if you use all the space on the cd or dvd.

unless it's really good piracy the back of the dvd should be purple or some other color rather than the regular silver or goldish
